Leonard Albert Lenny Kravitz is an American singersongwriter, multiinstrumentalist, record producer, actor and arranger, whose retro style incorporates elements of rock, blues, soul, RampB, funk, jazz, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, pop, folk and ballads. In addition to singing lead and backing vocals, Kravitz often plays all the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and percussion himself when recording.

Lenny Kravitz was born on May 26, 1964 in Manhattan, New York. He is the son of Roxie Roker, an actress known for her character Helen Willis in the 1970s television sitcom The Jeffersons, and Sy Kravitz, an NBC television news producer. His father was from a Jewish family . His mother was of Bahamian and AfricanAmerican descent, and was from a Christian family. Kravitz is the cousin of television weather presenter Al Roker. During his early years, Kravitz did not grow up in a religious environment. After a spiritual experience when he was 13, he started attending church, becoming a nondenominational Christian.
